As I lamented in a post almost a year ago, bird photography ain’t as easy as one might initially think. I’ve been trying off and on for a year and a half now with extremely meager results. Mostly due to my lack of patience and my lens not quite having the reach I wish it did. (Though the 16x optical zoom on my bridge camera is still a vast improvement over my little point and shoot.)
I have particular trouble with little flitty birds. So I was overjoyed when I managed to capture this uncooperative kinglet. The photo isn’t as sharp as I’d like, but I was lucky to get it at all. Prior to this one I had two photos of empty branches and two of blurred tail feathers. I finally caught it here in the moment before it flew away.
I know what you mean. I love birds and love being outside and love photography. Bird photos seem like a natural fit. Well, it’s hard to find the birds, hard to capture them, hard to get the lighting right, hard to get them to hold still. I suppose that is what makes it fun and challenging though. Lovely little bird. It sure looks sweet.

Yes, exactly! And the other thing in addition to your list is just when everything else aligns pefectly, the darn bird won’t turn around so all you can get is the back or hind end.

Such is the way with most animals, my bulldog included. 😉

Wow, gorgeous shot! I love the golden light in it and, knowing how those little kinglets never sit still, I am amazed you captured one.

Thanks! Sometimes you just get plain lucky and it makes up for all the failures.
