Ballard Drawbridge

The topic for the WPC this week is “bridge.” Since Seattle is a city surrounded by water we have our share of bridges, and several of them are drawbridges. A bridge tender is stationed in the tower of each one. Their job is to maintain the functioning and safety of the bridge, and raise the bridge to allow tall boats through.

    • Yeah. The only time I cross it is on my way to parks around Magnolia, so at least I’m not usually in a hurry when it goes up.

    • They’re mostly a nuisance to cranky locals or those in a hurry. πŸ˜€ It helps that they can’t be raised during morning and evening rush hour. If they went up then it would cause major traffic problems.

I think they’re pretty darn neat!
